No Audio in Movie Maker

When I capture vhs video into Movie Maker 2.1, I can see and hear what's
being captured. However, when I try to edit the captured video and when I
save it and play it, I have no audio. I've tried setting my audio to both
"audio-in" and "microphone". I'm using the 3-wire connection
(yellow-white-red).

See Mike's post above this one.
You need a pass-through device such as a digital camcorder that has a
pass-through feature or a Dazzle80 to convert the signal to digital. Movie
Maker won't usually work with an analog connection.
Your other option is to use the software that came with your capture card.

I bought a CameraMate and installed all of the relavant software. This is the
link between my vintage (1996) rca 8mm camcorder via USB to my PC running XP.
Still no sound. Do I need a Dazzle 80 (or similar) in addition to the
CameraMate?

I also have MSI "TV@Anywhere Plus" installed in my computer. When I try to
record directly from this, I get the same results - good video but no sound.

You shouldn't. I am not familiar with the "CameraMate" but it sounds as
though it is basically the same thing.
So if you still aren't getting sound I would check CameraMate's website for
answers. USB connections sometimes cause problems regardless but
unfortunately it is the only real option when working with analog other than
to use the software that came with the capture card which usually generates
an MPEG2 files that you would need to convert before importing into Movie
Maker.

I don't know that particular piece of hardware/software either but a quick
google search told me what it was. If you connect the camera to view via the
TV Anywhere TV tuner does it play through that software?
Another question then is are you using the TV recording feature that is
included with the card?
If you are and are then trying to import that into Movie Maker then that is
the problem since your card does save the file as an MPEG and MPEG files do
not work well with Movie Maker and hence need to be converted to AVI first
and then imported into Movie Maker.
