no audio device

I had a working Lynx 22 audio card in my computer.Recently I hooked up an
USB audio amplifier with DAC connected to the USB port. XP recognized the
USB device and installed it, but I do get no sound. The USB audio device
shows up in the Hardware tab in Control panel/audio and video devices, but
the volume tab shows no audio devices and everything is grayed out. In the
audio tab in default device no USB audio device is to be seen, just the
Lynx22 and a line#o in modem.
What can I do to get the sound from the USB port?

Your amplifier is a DAC which is digital audio, your Lynx22 audio card is
probably set to analog. Check the properties to set it for digital output.
If I am incorrect, maybe another reader will correct me and your setup.
