After installing XP Pro, I have no sound. When going into the Sound and Audio
Properties window and clicking on the hardware tab, it shows that everything
is working properly. I am running soundblaster 5.1 live and went to their
website to download any updates that they might have, after doing so I still
have no sound.
I know it is not a problem with the sound card or its drivers but rather a
windows issue. I was told it might be a line missing from the system.ini file
?? If so, how do I get into the file to change it??
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

The System.ini file can be changed using the System Configuration Utility.
Go to your start menu, choose run, type "msconfig" (without the quotes) in
the box and click OK. System.ini is on one of the tabs at the top of the
application.

Alternatively, if you have specific text to put into the file and are
feeling a bit more adventurous, go to the run box again, but this type enter
"notepad C:\windows\system.ini" (again, without the quotes) to edit the file
in notepad.

Be very careful editing this file, it might be worth printing off a copy
first, as it could stop other things from working.

You need to install the Live! drivers into XP. Most of the downloads from
Creative's web site require that the original CD version of the drivers be
installed first.

Throw me a line for the System.ini, will ya'? My daughter and I have got the
same problem. It's definitely not a sound card or driver issue - we each
lost audio and the Plug and Play Software Enumerator (since restored) within
weeks of each other on completely different systems -- only common
denominator=Windows Updates. We've tried every fix on the Web with no luck.
If the missing line works, please give us the script -- thanks!! Penne
