no audio device installed

I had to re-install Windows XP, using the recovery disk, and now I have no
sound device installed. The sound icon which used to be in the system tray
has vanished.
I have opened that control panel and looked in the 'sounds, speeches and
audio devices' section. I clicked on 'sounds and audio device properties' and
it says 'no audio device.' Below, the 'device volume' area is greyed out.
Does anybody know how I can solve this problem?

Thanks!!!!

You have to reinstall your soundcard drivers. Check your utility disks that
came with your PC when you purchased it. Or, you can go the the
manufacturers website an download them, they are free.
