No association with access point

I am using DSL with a Westell router (Verizons) and I am trying to use a
Linksys notebook adapter to set up a wireless network.

Everything seemed to install correctly with Linksys adapter and I can see
the SSID and signal from my main PC, but when I try to connect I receive a
"No association with access point" error.

I also set up the home network on both computers, which seemd to go fine.

Any help woud be appreciated, thanks.

What device is the laptop trying to connect to?

Is it trying to connect to the Westel router ( you don't say if it's a
wireless router )?
Or is it trying to connect to a wireless card on the other PC?

From what you say, it sounds like you are trying to connect directly from
one PC to another wirelessly.
That is called 'Ad Hoc' mode, and no access points are involved.

If you are seeing errors about associating with an access point, it suggests
that the laptop is incorrectly configured, and is in 'Infrastructure' mode
( PC <-> Access point ) rather than 'Ad Hoc' ( PC <-> PC ) mode.

Other reasons for assiciation errors are incompatable encryption methods
selected at either end ( check your setting for WEP/WPA at each end ) or
incorrect WEP/WPA keys.

Yes I am trying to connect to the wireless router hooked up to my main PC.

I think you could be correct and the laptop might be set up incorrectly.
How do I get the laptop into Ad-Hoc mode?

I will have to look into how to change the encryption and/or WEP/WPA
settings, as I am not really fluent in this.

Thank you very much.
