When I click Help and Support in Start panel nothing happens. When I click
System restore in Programmes nothing happens. When I click System information
same thing. Just a glimpse of the hourglass, then nothing.
Have tried to acces in other ways but there is no reaction at all. Even
doubleclicked rstrui.exe in system32-file in explorer.
Do not want to reinstall sr as express wish is to go back to earlier state.

After trying some of the fixes mentioned here I now get the message *Windows
cannot find helpctr.exe.*
After recommended search I found to files on my PC:
HELPCTR.EXE-OBD5B31B.pf C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch
*icon blue ?*HelpCtr.exe C:\WINDOWS\pchealth\helpctr\binary

Who publishes "Advanced WindowsCare"? and where did you get it?

Try restarting your system in Safe Mode, and in there, try using System Restore to go back to a date prior to all this "cleanup".

As the pc is powering up (or restarting), tap & repeat tapping F8 Function key. Then select "Safe Mode" from the startup choices.

Since I have in the meantime been able to make a system restore the cleansing
program has vanished from my pc.
However, my worries are not over: neither Help and Support nor System
Restore is at my disposal now - I cannot open them!

BTW - thank you for your attempt at helping.

humh, How did you manage a "system restore" in the the first place? or did you mean a manufacturer's Recovery CD as opposed to XP's System Restore?

In any event, see Bert Kinney's pages on System Restore
