no access to other computer on LAN

Hi -- I have a wireless LAN in my home. My computer is connected directly to
the router; my son's is via wifi. When I try to access his shared folder on
the network, I get an error message saying that it is not accessible, and
that I may not have privileges to access this. Can anyone tell me how I can
fix this so I have access? Thanks. -- David

P.S. -- Im using Windows 5.1, SP2

i just solved this exact problem. I had to tell my firewall that i had a
network. It was easy, i have norton internet sercurity and it ha a wizard
that detects other computers. The windows firewall will set itself up, but a
3rd party one will need to be configured

Thanks, but I'm a little confused. I use Zone Alarm, which usually prompts me
when a program is requesting access. That doesn't happen when I try to access
the shared folder. It's just an error from Windows. -- David

David,

1) What's the complete path to the folder?
2) Can you (have you tried to) access any other folders on that same computer?
3) What edition of Windows on each computer? XP Home, XP Pro with Simple File
Sharing? XP Pro with Advanced File Sharing, with Guest authentication? XP Pro
with Advanced File Sharing, with non-Guest authentication? This may make a
difference.
