The Gamecube is almost certainly still going to have a 5 year lifecycle,
like the N64 and SNES did.

You know, now you put it this way, I can now look into the future
generation consoles with a little less negativity. The way my life has
been going makes me seem like I've only had my Gamecube for a month,
even though I bought it December '01.

hype or not, nintendo has never lived up to their hyped ahem (virtual boy,
nintendo 64, gamecube), all failed systems, if you don't see the system as a
failure, then you really need to check out the big gap between playstation
and nintendo 64 or playstation 2 and gamecube , this isn't a snes vs
genesis gap, this gap is wider then the gap between your mothers legs

Hyping their machines will not effect how good their games are, it's simply
a marketing tactic needed to counter Sony and Microsoft doing the same
thing. And Nintendo has still shown a reluctance to overhype technical
specs, as we've seen with the DS. It seems to have more graphics potential
than they are letting on, judging from the early demos, but they are
focusing instead on the unique gameplay features it will enable.

Halo 2 maybe but Gran Turismo has always been an overbloated bore of a game.
I find things I like with each system. However for me the PS2 comes out on
bottom. Yet I still play all 3 and don't come on like an idiot condemning
