hello,
i have a onboard Nforce2 Sound card. i was using windows Xp previously and
had to format the harddisc. i installed windows xp again but this time the
sound device didnt seem to work. i detects Nvidia nForce sound device and
installs 3 files,
[1]Nvidia nforce MCP Audio Processing Unit,
[2] Nvidia nforce Audio Codec Interface,
[3] Nvdia nforce Audio Device

Only the first 2 devices are seen in Device Manager. the third one is not
visible. in multimedia settings it say "No Audio Device Found". I tried
removing and installing it again. thrice i did it but it didnt help either.
PLease help me as i have not seen this kind of problem before, where
drivers are detected, installed and even device manager says " this device is
working properly" but then sound doesnt play as it doesnt detect any
hardware. Even the SoundStorm control panel (Nvidia Software) say "Failed to
intilize Nvidia Sound Driver".

Go to NVidia.com and download the Unified driver for Windows XP Version 5.10.
That will detect all your NVidia components and install appropriate drivers.

Install the latest M/B driver package ver 5.10 from the Nvidia web site.

Look in "Sounds and Audio Devices Properties" under the Audio Tab. For sound
playback the default device should be Nvidia nForce Audio. If it isn't, make
it so. Reboot to test.

Hello Raghav -

Who made your motherboard and what model is it?

I ask because not all nForce2 motherboards include the SoundStorm audio.
Some use Realtek's ALC650 audio, among others.

From nVidia's download page for the nForce platform drivers for Windows XP:

.. Audio drivers will not install on the following nForce2 products:
Chaintech 7NJS. Please use the drivers that come with these products to
enable audio functionality.

Some other boards, such as Abit's NF7 and NF7-M, have the Realtek ALC650
audio and will 'function' with the nVidia driver... but to gain full
functionality, it will be necessary to install the Realtek drivers. (Don't
confuse this with Abit's NF7-S, which does include SoundStorm.)

Hello Jef, Richard.
i am Using Asus A7N266- VM Motherboard. as i said earlier i was using Sound
storm Software only so compablity is not a problem according to me, with the
instalation of 5.10 Unified driver version from nvidia website now i have NV
MIxer instead of Sound Storm. but still when i run it it gives me a error as
before.

Richard, in sounds and audio Devices Properties, under the audio tab thewre
is no devices to be selected. so i cannot see it. also there is a hardware
tab in the same where Nvidia nForce Audio Codec Interface and Nvidia Nforce
MCP Audio Processing Is present But Not Nvidia nForce Audio.

I would download the M/B update again from the nVidia web site. Your
download may have been corrupted. I have installed this update on 5-6
computers now and have not had any problems.

Have you been in the bios? The sound can be turned off there I believe.
Something to check out.
