newsgroups

I am new to newsgroups and have no idea what I am doing.
I am using Outlook Express on Windows XP with my hotmail accout.
Now.. Can I subscribe to any newsgroups or just the Microsoft ones?
How do I set them up in OE? I think it's something to do with the server,
and if so does that mean I can't because hotmail uses the microsoft
server???

Any help would be much appreciated
Thanks

This is not a question for a Word group, however as you may never come back
without this information, I will point you to
http://www.gmayor.com/MSNews.htm which demonstrates how to set up to
Microsoft news groups. Additionally you will probably have an ISP which
provides a news feed. You can set up both the Microsoft and ISP servers in
OE and use them as one, for which purpose you need to add the Sync All
command to the toolbar.

You can subscribe to as many or as few groups as you like. There are groups
for every conceivable purpose and some are less friendly than others -
Until you become more familiar with how it all works, you will be safer in
the Microsoft groups.

Hi Kristie,

Click the following link and this newsgroup will be added to OE for
you:
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.word.docmanagement

To subscribe to other newsgroups on the Microsoft server go to
Tools/Newsgroups.

If you want to subscribe to newsgroups that are not on the Microsoft
server then you'll need to use a news sever from your ISP. Usually
they have a topic on their Help pages on their web site which will
provide you with the name of the news server and how to set it up. :)

assistance by email can not be acknowledged.

Here, in microsoft.public.word.docmanagement, us woodland
creatures rarely venture beyond the microsoft news servers;
for the world of usenet is savage - red of tooth and claw.

Even in our quiet group danger lurks. Come, spend time
with us, and you'll soon realize we are mere playthings
to the whims of our two queens:

o By day reigns our magnificent lupine bitch - alpha female
and lord - will help twenty and bite the twenty-first;
loving not, hating not, just choosing so.

o By moonlight, when talk is safer, reigns our panther -
sleek-wet, lithe queen; casually she commands: say, this
little fellow shall I help, and this other, I might vex.

and being clueless, we must submit.

But I prefer my queens' slights to the wilderness of usenet,
where exist beasts, strong with scorn and mockery, who will
rip and tear till maggots scamper through your brain.

Even with this warning I know you're determined to see the
outside world. However to meet trolls, gollums, calibans,
hags, and small eft-things that slither and crawl, you need
a news server. One good news feeder is available for
free at http://news.individual.net.

If your tastes run to the more exotic, and you'd prefer
the company of pirates and porn merchants, may I suggest the
news server 'biggulp.readfreenews.net'.
Any help would be much appreciated

Glad to have helped.

Your sincerely,

expecting my MVP certificate any day soon.
