I have only recently joined. I posted a question on Wednesday, and was
notified by e-mail that someone was able to help me. I clicked on the link
and the browser opened up a blank screen. When I clicked on "...continue
receiving...", I also got a blank screen. Am I doing something wrong? ( I
have not asked to be notified this time ).

Do yourself a BIG favour and ditch the horrible web interface. Use a news
reader instead.

Suggest you use a newsgroup reader, such as those available in
Thunderbird or Outlook Express. There are standalone programs, too, such
as Xnews. I like Xnews, but there's a learning curve associated with
using it.

If you have the time to post here, you have the time to return here to
check for updates to your thread. Taking the discussion off-line is
rude to others who may want to research the same problem but then they
can't find the answer because it got e-mailed.

Scammers and spammers attempt to get users to divulge their valid e-mail
address by asking for e-mail replies to their newsgroup posts.

Giving out your valid e-mail address means you are publishing it in a
highly public place where anyone can find it, including the spambots
that roam the newsgroups to collect e-mail addresses. You really don't
know if someone e-mailing you is doing you a favor.

So post here and then return here to check for replies. Go back to your
post on Wednesday to see if anyone replied there.

You sure you posted in THIS newsgroup back on Wednesday? I find no
prior posts in this newsgroup under the moniker "mintvivl". Other than
this post, Google Groups doesn't find any posts with that moniker.

Yes. Dump the web interface and get a newsreader. Thunderbird is a
good one and it's free:
http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/thunderbird/

You'll be prompted to create an account on launch, so you can create a
newsgroup account easily. Enter msnews.microsoft.com as the server
name. When you are in TB, right click on the newsgroup and select
Subscribe. Navigate to microsoft.public.windowsxp.general and you'll be
here! Then you can check any additional groups you would like to
subscribe to.

You are not using the "News Groups" if you are using a Web Interface,
you are using a bad interface TO news groups.

If you want to properly interact in Usenet you should use them via
Usenet connections and not a web interface.

VanguardLH,
The OP did not ask about *replies* via eMail, rather,
*notifications* of responses, via eMail.
