Newsgroups transfer from Desktop to Laptop?

How can I transfer the newsgroups I follow and which I have on the desktop
to my laptop?

I have downloaded them on the laptop but want to save myself the arduous
task of doing it manually, if I can.

Both systems use Windows XP SP#2, both use Outlook Express for newsgroups
and Outlook for mail.

Both use also wireless.

Outlook Express can create an".iaf" (Internet accounts file) to back up and
restore information about mail folders and mail and news account settings,
however it will not store subscribed newsgroup information. Not sure about
XP's file and transfer wizard.

Favorites onto a CD (burnt with NERO)

I can see all on the completed disk.

But when I go to the laptop and want to import these Folders or the Address
Book, it does not do it, even when I point to the CD.

I have done this before (w/o burning and it always worked)

This time, regardless what I do, I cannot yet succeed.

Outlook Express can be "touchy" about exporting/importing information ad
settings. Basically Express will permit exporting of the address book and
messages by use of its export and import wizard. There is a difference
between "backing up" and "exporting" - the export function puts all items in
a single file from which you can import. Your post implies that the items
were "backed up" individually.

OE must have write-access to any *.dbx files you want to import. You must
therefore copy the files to your hard disk and then turn off the Read-Only
attribute. In Explorer, select all the files, then right-click on any one
and select Properties. You can then uncheck the Read-Only box. Or at a DOS
prompt, enter this:
attrib -r *.*]]

I like to move the Addressbook and my NG's selection from Desktop to Laptop.

Both have Outlook 2003 and OE 6.0 Also both have Windows XP.

Hi,

Drive.

When I go to the thumb drive I am not able to select Properties, when they
are all selected via Edit (and are blue). When I select any individual
folder I see that they are not checke marked as Read, but as Archive.

When I try to just copy these folders now from the thumbdrive (by switching
the latter to the laptop) it seems as if all went ok, but when I go to the
Folders in the laptop, they have zero content. Yet they have various content
on the thumbdrive.

When I try to Import these folders from the thumbdrive, it gives me the
option of where they come from. I chose OE 6.x and then select the
destination of the main folder where they all are, which is in Backup of the
downloaded free OE backup (which I have installed on both machines)

But when I select Backup (where the folders all are on the thumbdrive) the
Import says it does not contain Messages.

This is slowly driving me nuts.

Can you appreciate my frustation? Especially when over the years I have
done this many times.

Same with Addressbook. I see it on the thumbdrive but it fails to Import.

Copy them from the thumb drive to the hard drive and try importing
from there.

I tried that too and it did not work.

But let me tell you all what finally DID work.

I downloaded the free version of OE Backup and installed it in both
machines.

I then created a backup folder in both machines, then backed up the desktop.
Took the backed up folder from the desktop and put it on the thumb drive.
Copied it to the back up folder on the laptop. Then went to Restore on the
Back up program and all worked -- finally.

PS I have done this for years with all versions of windows and OE and never
had so much trouble since these latest versions of windows xp pro and
associated OE for transfer of data. Otherwise, I have no complaints with
either version.
