How long are the MS support newsgroup messages kept on the server?

Are the messages archived somewhere?

Thank you.

Go to the bottom of page, you'll see showing 1 of 418,418 goes back to
04/05,just type in a page to see where you might want to get to.

It's kept for 2 months on the MS servers for the XP newsgroups, but you can
access all archived posts on Google groups going back years.
Posts downloaded to your local store will be removed on a reset of a XP
newsgroup.

Splendid, thank you.

(Thanks also to Andrew for his reply, but it wasn't quite the answer I
was looking for :-) )

One more question:

I can get a list of available MS support groups via my newsreader, but I
wonder if there is a web link that would show all the group names so
that one could select the name of the appropriate group for entering
under "Group" at http://groups.google.com/advanced_search, without
having to loook it up in the newsreader?

It's also listed on my home page from the link in the signature.

FWIW, Herb is not using the same web interface as you are and will not
see the same thing. e.g. I don't see 1 of 418,418 or pages in Agent
and Herb's view with Thunderbird will be different again.

Thanks, but the list doesn't appear to provide the specific group names
(e.g. microsoft.public.windowsxp.help_and_support) for entering under
"Group" at http://groups.google.com/advanced_search :-(

I realise I posted my original message in the XP group, but what I would
really like is an overview of *all* MS support groups, i.e. not just XP
groups.

Are you looking for something more like this:

Exactly 8-)

Thanks!

I am not sure which ones are/were missing but it's not exactly up to date
the last time I reviewed it. It was missing the OE General for one and
probably some of the other newer ones. For the most part it's got everything
there that you should be looking for though unless it's been updated lately.

Yes, the list is very useful, thanks, and I find the following approach
quite efficient for searching a particular group via Google Groups:

Right-click the appropriate gropup at http://aumha.org/nntp.htm and copy
the link, then paste the link into the Groups field at
http://groups.google.com/advanced_search and delete
the "part of the link 8-)
