Newgroups

This may not be the right place to ask, but here goes. I know there are
other newsgroups that can be viewed in Outlook Express or Outlook 2007.
Setting up the one that comes with my isp is no problem, but how would I be
able to view something like msnews.microsoft.com or forums.projectserven.com
that have different subjects than the isp newsgroup offers.

I see these on the internet all the time, but would really like to view them
in my email.

Hi Jerry,

msnews.microsoft.com is the server you want.

I don't have Outlook 2007. I have Outlook Express. Open Outlook Express.

Click Tools then click Accounts.

Click Add. Click News. Run the Wizard. When you add the server type in
msnews.microsoft.com.

As for the forums.projectserven.com, ask in the
forums.projectserven.com if they export.

First, Outlook does not have a newsreader. If you tell Outlook to connect
to a news server, it will launch..... Outlook Express (or Windows Mail, if
it's Vista). Or, whatever the default news handler is.

Outlook uses OE for both NNTP and internet mail transports.

Usenet is not email, and you won't see the news postings in your mail. And
considering the amout of traffic, you really don't want it in your mail,
either!

You'll have a separate listing of the news server, and then the groups
you've subscribed to for each server. When you first add the server,
you'll be asked if you want to get the list of groups. Say Yes, and you'll
get the list and be able to choose what you wish.

Second, you can use Google to find the names of the Usenet server, and add
it under Tools, Accounts in Outlook Express. Google "free usenet servers"
and you will find lots of servers to check out. Keep in mind that many
have very limited sets of groups, and don't allow outsiders posting
privileges.

In OE, go to Tools, Accounts, Add, News. Enter the your user name, an
email address (which does not have to be valid) , server name, and that's
about all you need to do for free servers. For paid servers, check "server
requires a login" and enter the account information.
