newer versions of AV software?

.... is there any real reason to buy & upgrade to the latest version of
Anti-Virus software? Am running McAfee VirusScan 6.0 and have just renewed
my virus definitions for another year but version 7.0 is currently out and
probably by years end v8.0 will be released .......... any advantages to
getting the latest & greatest???

Yes, but it isn't the 'updated' engine that catches the virus is it, isn't
it the updated .bin (or data) file that catches it?

no, it's both of them together... newer definitions utilize newer
detection technology in order to catch viruses... if you update one and
not the other you are *not* getting the benefits you think you are...

What's the point in that signature thing?

It is to show the whole world how old his defs are.
...should be some update notices posted here soon. ;o)
