which AV software for me??

All,

I've just recently formatted and upgraded to winXP. I currently ust
Mcafee as my AV. My subscription runs out in Sep. this year. I know alot
of people knock on Mcafee but why? Are there reasons I should be looking
for different AV software, and if so which ones?? Also, I do not currently
have a firewall setup(didn't get that with my Mcafee package)with my cable
connection. I use to use Zonealarm(free version) but am wondering how good
Zonealarm is. Any suggestions? I don't keep any real material on my PC
just want to keep the viruses out. I use my PC mainly for internet, email,
web browsing(shopping) and "some" gaming......any ideas, advice??

Thanks,
Ron

If you're satisfied with McAfee, you should continue with it since it
affords top notch detection of a wide variety of malicious code.

Open Network Connections (Click Start, click Control Panel, and then
double click Network Connections). Click to select the Dial up, LAN
or High Speed Internet connection that you want to protect.
within the Network Connections folder, right-click on the connection
that you want to protect and then click Properties
To enable Internet Connection Firewall (ICF), select the Protect my
computer and network by limiting or preventing access to this computer
from the Internet check box.

That will hold you till you make up your mind which firewall to use.

AVG seems to be getting a good reception here, and its free.
But I have not seen anyone on here say much bad about McAfee.
Norton has been causing speed problems for some time and particularly
over the past 2 days, so , I like AVG personally.
