Does McAfee 6.0 ever expire ? Is there any reason to upgrade to 8.0(2004 version) ?

I've been using the 6.0 version for a few years. It doesn't say anything
about renewing a "subscription" to get virus definition updates. I've
heard that newer versions only let you update for a year. Is this
correct? I know that norton does this, but I'm not sure about McAfee.

Also, is there any reason to upgrade to the newest version of McAfee? I
don't use any of the background scanning services. I just do a manual
scan using the command line scan.exe found in the program files\common
files\Network Associates\.. folder.
