NewEgg.com Bad Seller?

R

Ralph

A few years ago I was in one of the reputable photo/video dealers
in New York City that has just instituted a 15% restocking charge
for video cameras. While I was talking to the sales guy he mentioned
that he thought people were buying them for weekend outings, probably
weddings, and returning them Monday morning.

Why can't NewEgg do this? If the item is non-defective they charge a
restocking fee.
Do your homework before you buy something.

How does doing my homework assure that NewEgg doesn't send me
defective garbage?
Newegg will replace
defective items; they have for me. Why should your mistake raise the
prices I pay.

What the hell are you talking about??? NewEgg can send people
defective crap and keep your money because they know you can't get a
refund. How is it my mistake if they send me defective crap over and
over because they know they get to keep my money no matter what?
I also make major purchases at a reputable camera/home
electronics dealers in NYC that has a credit-only policy. They
frequently have the best prices around because they don't have to take
the returns from clueless people.

You sure a stupid. I buy something from NewEgg which is defective and
that make me clueless? The clueless people are dumb ****s like you
who take defective merchandise because they deal with companies who
won't give refunds if they sell you shit.
If you bought the wrong item there's always ebay to unload it.

Who the **** said anything about buying the worng item????? ****ing
dumb ass.

I purchase almost all of my computer parts from www.newegg.com

Some items are often hard to get or costly and they will only allow
exchanges for the same item.

So if they are hard to get why won't they give a refund? They send
you a defective product and say no refund but it is hard to get so
they say too bad, no refund and no replacement? Are their only stupid
people on this group? It is even more important for a comany to offer
refunds on expensive stuff as it keeps them honest. Would you spend
$2000 knowing they can send you defective crap over and over until you
get tied of paying to ship it back? What do they do with the
exchanged item? They are out the product anyway so what's the
difference if they give the money back. Could it be they take the
returned defective product and send it to someone else? Hmmmm.
At other times they do offer for sale
refurbished items that are basically sold as is and they will have
this kind of a return policy.

Go do a search for motherboards and see how many BRAND NEW RETAIL
motherboard have this no refund policy while refurbished items DO NOT.

Did you buy the cheaper refurbished board instead of the retail box?

Nope. The mainboard I bought was supposed to be brand new. In fact, at the
time, newegg had a higher price than mwave on that specific board. So I
ended up spending more for the defective board than I had spent for a brand
new mainboard of the exact same model from mwave a few weeks prior. But as
I wrote before, on that specific system, mwave didn't have every component I
needed, and I wanted to use one vendor to get all my parts. -Dave

No it doesn't, it means they are more likely to send you someone elses
return. What incentive is there for them to send non-defective
merchandise if they keep your money either way? It's like those
extended warranties. You keep bringing the product back for repair and
they keep sending it back unrepaired but saying that it was repaired.
Pretty soon you realize you aren't going to get it fixed and you quit
taking the product back.

Okay, thanks for enlightening a few of the hundred thousand chumps that
somehow have gotten the idea that newegg is about the best place to buy.

I was looking to buy some stuff from NewwEgg.com but see the following
note for many items.

"NON-REFUNDABLE ITEM. Exchange for same Exact Item Only!"

Now anyone can sell crappy defective products and use this excuse to
keep sending you crap. Eventually you get tired of returning the stuff
and you go away (and the company knows it). One of the ways to keep a
company honest is to allow the buyer to get a refund if they aren't
happy. That way the company knows if they sell crap they aren't going
to get to keep the money. NewEgg used to get good reviews but I can't
believe anyone would take a chance with them when so many of their
products are non-refundable. Who else can I buy copmputer parts from
that is reputable.

You've taken the line that if you are sent defective merchandise that
NewEgg might keep sending you more defective items. But what is your
EXPERIENCE with NewEgg?

As mentioned several times in the postings within this thread NewEgg
has treated exchanges for defective items fine. Only people who may
be concerned are those that want to swap one brand/model for another.

Has this EVER happened to you? I've bought extended warranties for
notebook computers and personal CD players. Every time I've had to use
these warranties the items were either replaced or repaired.
Pretty soon you realize you aren't going to get it fixed and you quit
taking the product back.

Obviously YMMV.

They shouldn't but if they send you something defective they should
have to refund the money as this prevents them from knowingly sending
defective merchandise. That's what I meant by happy but sounds like
you like to get ripped off.
If they send you something defective they should have to replace it with
the same item that is not defective.

replacement is also defective then something should be done.

Have you ever ordered from newegg? If so have you ever wanted to return

Other than paranoia is there any reason for you to think that newegg

At my office we've bought lots of stuff from newegg over the past
several years (probably 10K or more) and have had exactly one problem.
They inadvertently left out one of the items in an order. A phone call
to customer service took care of the problem and the missing item was
shipped and arrived two days later.

-- I can see why you might be reluctant to purchase from a company with
this kind of policy but my experience (and that of many others)
indicates that newegg is not a company with sleazy practices.

Lots of assumptions and inventive scenarios created to support a
negative post. Most web companies DO NOT want rating sites to start
posting a bad review. A good majority of people use those sites to
decide what company to buy from. MANY come through here asking.
Directed here by other geeky friends who intro them to newsgroups. We
in turn give them basically the top three from our experiences (Mwave,
newegg, etc) and usually the group is pretty devircevfied so those are
usually the ones that are rated in the top 5 of the rating sites. Even
a 2% drop because of reviews means cash. Any reputable internet
seller, that's survived as long as them knows this stuff. Anyway, I
doubt that newegg would do something like that intentionally ,
according to your written situation. when the NON this or that appears
on items there is usually a reason (e.g. tested and restocked/return,
buy it for a good price) kind of thing.

Consumer laws vary from state to state. Here in MA retailers are pretty
much free to set their own return policies as long as the post the return
policy at a conspicuous place (e.g. a b&m retailer would have to place a
return policy sign at the cash register). I assume the same is the case for
CA where Newegg is based. Whether you agree with it or not this is the
return policy that Newegg has implemented and they have made this policy
conspicuous on their website. Any potential customer viewing this will have
been forewarned and decide if they want to do business with them. I they
don't feel comfortable with their return policy than one is free to take
their business else wear.

Looks like you have been ripped off by them and feel like a fool.

He was pointing out they have a lifetime rating of 9.72 which is
exceptional.

He was calling you a jackass because your entire post is based on the
assumption that newegg.com sells defective parts and cheats their
customers contrary to the experience of just about all of their customers.
You also stated that newegg.com used to get good reviews, implying they no
longer do, when the truth is their rating over the last six months is
higher than their lifetime rating which is exceptional.

What they are probably tired of is people buying a mobo, then reading a
benchmark somewhere after they bought it, return the first, then a friend
tells them how awsome their Via is so they return the second one for this
via one etc etc when there was NOTHING wrong with any of them.

I wonder too if you only buy music CD's or software that allow you to return
it for a different one? I'm GLAD newegg has this policy to keep idiots from
driving the costs of hardware up playing these swap out games.

They'll replace it if it's defective.
Are their only stupid
people on this group?

No, it's people who have used newegg and gotten good service. I've bought
thousands of dollars of stuff and never had any problems. I even had a
problem with a driver conflict on a mobo that was one of these "no
exchange" deals and after I explained the problems I was having, they send
me something different. Where you cooked up this "They can just keep
sending you broken hardware" is the only stupid thing I've read in this
thread!

BTW does Dad know you're using his computer?

I assume a lot of these products are so low margin that they can't
afford to offer refunds. It's like anything else - if you want better
terms you have to pay more. If you can find the product cheaper with
better sales terms elsewhere - then, hey, that's how the free market works.

Hey Matt!

You hit 100% on your answer to Ralph's nonsense posts.

I have purchased many times from NewEgg with almost No problems.

I did return 2 defective WD hard drives to Western Digital and both were
replaced promptly at no charge and reurned to me via Free FedEx.
I paid for return shipping only, at around $6 each time.
