NewEgg.com Bad Seller?

R

Ralph

I was looking to buy some stuff from NewwEgg.com but see the following
note for many items.

"NON-REFUNDABLE ITEM. Exchange for same Exact Item Only!"

Now anyone can sell crappy defective products and use this excuse to
keep sending you crap. Eventually you get tired of returning the stuff
and you go away (and the company knows it). One of the ways to keep a
company honest is to allow the buyer to get a refund if they aren't
happy. That way the company knows if they sell crap they aren't going
to get to keep the money. NewEgg used to get good reviews but I can't
believe anyone would take a chance with them when so many of their
products are non-refundable. Who else can I buy copmputer parts from
that is reputable.

The policy also means they are less likely to send you an item returned
by somebody else.

Happy and defective are two completely different categories. Say you
purchase an LCD monitor. Month or so later a friend buys another
brand that you decide you like better. You're now unhappy. Why
should any company be expected to give you a refund for a properly
operating device?

Friends in the retail industry say this has become the bane of the
marketplace. End result being higher prices for all to offset the "be
nice" policy of accepting returns of non-faulty merchandise.

I have purchased many components from newegg, will likely purchase from them
again, and have recommended others purchase from them. It doesn't surprise
me that they have high ratings on resellerratings. HOWEVER . . .

A few years ago, I built a system for my wife (with components from
www.mwave.com). It turned out fantastic, no problems at all. Then a friend
of mine wanted me to build a similar system for her. She let me pick most
components, but there were a couple of components she wanted that (at the
time) mwave didn't carry. Newegg did. To save on shipping charges, I
decided to get all the components for her system from newegg. I ordered the
EXACT SAME MOTHERBOARD that I'd used with my wife's system.

All components arrived from newegg. Odd thing was, the box for the
motherboard was different. It had the right brand markings on it, so I
didn't give it much thought. That is, until I opened up the box and found
the anti-static bag protecting the motherboard had been opened before newegg
shipped it to me. (NOT a good sign) I decided to throw together the system
just to see what would happen. It was massively unstable. So I sent that
mainboard back to newegg and they exchanged it for another one. This one
was in a sealed package, and worked fine.

Now I read that newegg won't give cash refunds on many items. I'd probably
still be inclined to purchase some items from newegg. Not motherboards,
though. -Dave

Also, I recall when I was shopping Newegg and others that the items with the
limited return policy where OEM or discounted items. Items clearly marked
RETAIL, and priced accordingly, were not limited. Another case of you get
what you pay for. Many consumers today are brats. They want it both ways.

Would YOU want Newegg to ship you an item that had already been

Or should they throw arbitrarily returned items into the trash bin or
sell them at a reduced price? Why should they have to take a loss

exactly what to expect BEFORE you order an item!

They had to put a stop to the "free rental service". You get a lazer
printer for a printing job. Run it like crazy for 29 days, then claim
you don't like it and get your money back. Many other retailers have
also put a stop to that. I'm glad because it sends prices skyhigh for
honest buyers.

A few years ago I was in one of the reputable photo/video dealers
in New York City that has just instituted a 15% restocking charge
for video cameras. While I was talking to the sales guy he mentioned
that he thought people were buying them for weekend outings, probably
weddings, and returning them Monday morning.

Do your homework before you buy something. Newegg will replace
defective items; they have for me. Why should your mistake raise the
prices I pay. I also make major purchases at a reputable camera/home
electronics dealers in NYC that has a credit-only policy. They
frequently have the best prices around because they don't have to take
the returns from clueless people.

If you bought the wrong item there's always ebay to unload it.

That could have been a machine at the factory that didn't seal the static
bag. And is it neweggs fault that the manufacturer made a defective MOBO? I
think newegg is the best. And also all the products that have the NO REFUND
are usually expensive, and with a business like newegg large refunds eat up
your profits which lead to other things.

I (eventually) built three systems with this board. Are you going to claim
you think it's possible that the only bad motherboard out of the three left
the factory:
1) Defective
2) In a non-standard box and
3) With it's anti-static bag with broken seal (not like it wasn't there,
but rather had been RIPPED open)

Sorry, that's too much of a coincidence for me to accept. -Dave

Did you buy the cheaper refurbished board instead of the retail box?
Every since my local computer shop went out of business (not my fault, I got
everything from him... he found a better paying job) I have purchased
thousands of dollars of computer components from NewEgg. Never once
received a defective item. Yes, I know that if you RMA something because
you decide you did not need it, you will take a beating on the refund. But
that is my fault for not researching the item better.

I purchase almost all of my computer parts from www.newegg.com

Some items are often hard to get or costly and they will only allow
exchanges for the same item. At other times they do offer for sale
refurbished items that are basically sold as is and they will have
this kind of a return policy.

New Egg is the best all around Computer Parts Store in the Internet
that sells goods primarily in the USA that I would recommend to
anyone. I love all the pictures of the items that they sell. They
were a pioneer in supplying lots of pictures of things like
motherboards and computer cases.

Some other sites on the Internet sell some things at similar prices
like www.zipzoomfly.com

However, no one has as many nice pictures of what you are buying.

No, but it is their fault not to offer refunds.

No kidding they are expensive. No one wants to get ripped off on a
product only to be sent more defective stuff because they can't get a
refund. This is a big red flag to me.

R

Ralph

The policy also means they are less likely to send you an item returned
by somebody else.

No it doesn't, it means they are more likely to send you someone elses
return. What incentive is there for them to send non-defective
merchandise if they keep your money either way? It's like those
extended warranties. You keep bringing the product back for repair and
they keep sending it back unrepaired but saying that it was repaired.
Pretty soon you realize you aren't going to get it fixed and you quit
taking the product back.

They shouldn't but if they send you something defective they should
have to refund the money as this prevents them from knowingly sending
defective merchandise. That's what I meant by happy but sounds like
you like to get ripped off.
Friends in the retail industry say this has become the bane of the

Okay listen up, I am not talking about non-faulty merchandise. NewEggs
policy is not to give a refund for ANY reason on many items. If that
doesn't send up a red flag for you then go get ripped off.

Ralph

This is such a complete and total lie. In fact I saw just the
opposite. Refurbished items did not have the limited return but new
RETAIL items did.

Another case of you get

I just want an honest company who will refund my money if they send me
defective merchandise. A company who does not do that has something to
hide.

R

Ralph

Would YOU want Newegg to ship you an item that had already been
shipped to somebody else, opened by them, and done no telling what to?

That's exactly what they can do now since they will take returns and
can send them to someone else because you have no choice but to accept
more defective garbage. If you get ten bad motherboards too bad. You
must ship them back at your own expense and finally you will give up
because you don't have the option to get your money back. If they
were forced to give you money back on defectibe merchandise then they
would have no incentive to send out junk like they can now.
Or should they throw arbitrarily returned items into the trash bin or
sell them at a reduced price?

If they are non-defective charge a restocking fee. If defective they
should be sent back to the manufacturer for credit. No one should be
forced to accept garbage.
Why should they have to take a loss
because of some customer's fickle brain? Do your homework. Know
exactly what to expect BEFORE you order an item!

You are one of the stupidest people I have seen. Why should a customer
be forced to accept defective merchandise because a company won't
refund their money for garbage? If NewEgg sells crap and people want
refunds it is NewEgg's fault and they should be put out of business.

Such total crap. Now the person can get a new printer every 29 days.
If the stuff is non-defective they should charge a restocking fee.
Sounds like NewEgg doesn't want to be in business. What next? Can
they charge your credit card double to keep prices low?
