Bill

Thanks in advance for any help - new to this forum.

Lost access to my root drive (C:\)and related files.

Double clicking on My Computer then Local Disk (C:)
produces the dialog box "C:\ is not accessible Access is
denied".

Sure I'm missing a vital piece of information in my
description but is this enough to get started?

Assuming you are able to boot into the operating system, logon as an administrator
and right click the folder and select properties. Select security and then give
yourself or administrators full control making sure there are no deny permissions
enabled for administrators, users, or everyone. If you can not change permissions,
you may need to take ownership first. To do that select the advanced box of the
security page, then ownership and grant ownership to the administrators group. Once
you have ownership, you should be able to grant yourself full permissions. --- Steve

Steve - thanks!! Taking ownership worked
