newbie-> save form folder & permissions (?)

after migrating a site from an nt4/fpse 2000 server to a
win2003server/fpse2002 server everything seems to be working okay except for
the forms. when trying to submit a form on the new server an error message
appears that states 'error, report message to administrator/see application
event log for details' but no messages actually appear in the app event log.
my first guess ( and i am a newbie so i could be wrong here ) is that the
permissions are not set correctly to write to the forms results file. the
existing forms have the following code: form method="post" action
="_vti_bin/shtml.dll/contact.htm" and they worked on the previous server -
but neither the previous nt4 server nor the new win2003 server seem to have
this _vti_bin folder (?). to get the forms to work on the new server should
i alter this code and/or adjust the permissions for the file or folder that
the form is trying to write to ? tia, any help on this would be greatly
appreciated ...

how did you "move" your web from the old server to the new one?

you may want to try this;
open the server based web with FrontPage, hit tools/ recalculate hyperlinks.

you shouldn't have to manually set permissions for this sort of thing,
regarding that _vti_bin/shtml.dll/contact.htm, you won't see it as it's a
hidden folder and file that FrontPage server extensions use.

hi, thanks for the reply. we manually copied the content over via tape
cartridge (and then installed/applied the fpse for each site). will that be
a problem for the fpse that the content was copied over that way ?
everything else save for the forms seems to be working okay.

generally the only way to get stuff moved cleanly is the file/publish
method, even if it's from server to server.

did you get any benefits from the tools/recalculate hyperlinks thing?

hi, i have not had a chance to try the recalculate thing yet, but i will try
that shortly ( we have some extra client config settings to do b/c now the
sites are in an nlb cluster ). do you think that i will be okay with the move
the way i did it though ( after the recalc thing ) ? everything else seems
to be working okay, at least as best as i can tell so far. is there a tech
doc on how to do the migration using the publish method you mentioned ?

p.s. thanks again for your help on this one, i really appreciate it.

You would just use File Menu | Open Site, then use File Menu | Publish Site to move the site from
one server/location to another server/location
