NEWBIE: How to attach an I/O template to the case

Sorry if this sounds stupid, but this is the first system I'm
building.

I have a Linkworld mid-tower case, and an ECS K7S5A Pro motherboard.
The motherboard came with its own I/O template, and I need to replace
the one attached to the case with this one.

The case's template was attached using a pair of screws. However, the
new motherboard's template does not extend to the point where those
screws would match up.

Are these things standardized for ATX cases? I would suppose so. If
so, is there something really simple that I am missing?

Thanks for the patience and the help.

first off make 100% sure your new panel lines up with your your
motherboard...

to get it to fit you have a few alternatives...but a simple way would be to
merely
use the original panel and just take a tin snips and cut the bottom of it
off..
leaving just enough to overlap the new template...
then mark where the holes should be and drill them out ...
just be sure that you file off the rough edges and thouroughly clean off any
metal filings before installing it!

I should just pop into place.

Standard I/O templates are nearly flat and are held in by motherboard
pressure. Chances are that your original case/template are not standard.
I saw a few of these when ATX first came out, but not recently.

Last I checked, they are held in place by molded edges, on the I/O plate
itself. What country are you in?

most linkwoods I've seen, it fits in place with tabs on the left and 2 screws on the right.

I think you attach the plate to the motherboard first.

I don't need to read a 'spec' to know that most plates, in most cases, have
edges shaped to hold them in. A spec sheet can say anything you want it to.
What counts is what is in place, in the real world.

The template should just be pressure fit into the case hole; it takes a
little force. It sounds like your case may not be machined to the ATX
standard.
