I just bought XP Professional and installed to replace my
Windows 98 and Office 2000 software. After installing,
the programs such as Word, Powerpoint, etc seemed to be
fine but I notice that the desktop still looks the same
and when my computer boots Windows 98 comes up instead of
XP. I think I am still running 98 with XP programs. I
have tried to uninstall and then reinstall my copy but
nothing changed.

Anybody have a remedy?

did you do an UPGRDAE or a fresh format? you are best off to do a fresh
format of XP using NTFS paritions.

Your post is a little confusing. Do you understand the difference between the
Application Suite MS Office XP and the Operating System MS Windows XP? If you
installed MS Office XP Professional, it has nothing whatsoever to do with your
OS which apparently is Windows 98. My recommendation would be to buy a copy of
WIndows XP Home Edition Upgrade from a reputable computer retailer in your area
and have them upgrade your PC for you. You will then have Office XP AND your OS
will be Windows XP. Assuming I've interpreted your post correctly, of course.

It sounds to me like you've installed a copy of OfficeXP. That will
upgrade your Office applications - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook,
Access - to the latest version. It will *not* upgrade your operating
system, that's a different product that you buy separately.
