How do I remove windows 98 while installing Windos XP

I have windows 98 in my PC and I installed Windows XP professional but
Windows 98 still shows up. How do I get rid of it?
 
If you just installed WinXP it would be best to wipe the harddrive and
reinstall XP.

Ideally, you should have done a clean install, repartitioning your C
drive, format, and install XP.
