New XP Professional Install Problem

Jason

Before I installed XP I ran the advisor and it said that
no problems were detected. I ran the XP install (booted
from the CD) and it ran without a problem. However, upon
reboot the system hangs at the first Windows XP screen,
the keyboard Num lock, Caps lock and Scroll lock lights
all blink and then the system hangs, no disk activity and
the caps light will not come on when the caps lock key is
depressed. I would appreciate any help since I have been
unable to figure out anything. I can boot to safe mode but
after installing update drivers for everything I still
can't get it to boot. I have a Dell Dimension 8100, P4 1.3
Ghz, 512 MB RAM, Evga Nvidia FX5200, Soundblaster Live!,
Integrated 3com NIC, Toshiba DVD, Sony CD-RW, BIOS is XP2.

Have you checked Dell's website? Are you running the latest BIOS and drivers
for the mobo??

Yes, I have checked Dell's website to no avail, and yes
latest for both motherboard and BIOS.

A little more information, I can't get it to boot to safe
mode w/networking support it freezes at the same point, I
can however boot to "normal" safe mode. I did some looking
and it mentions something in the bootlog about afd.sys not
being loaded, I have not seen any articles that address
this though.

I'm wondering if you ever found a problem to your AFD.SYS problem. My X
Home system hangs roughly 50% of the time trying to load AFD.SYS.

Thanks,
