Is there some way of directing IE to place downloaded files in a specific
location (like M.... does)?

How do I add a link (icon) to the tool bar at the bottom of the desk top as
a shortcut to call up a program or start a file. I kmow it can be done but
tried "help" with no success.

Right click on your Start button and select Properties from the menu.
Click on the Taskbar tab.
On the Taskbar page, put a check mark in the box next to "Show Quick Launch".
Click OK.
You can now drag and drop shortcuts onto the Quick Launch Toolbar.
If you want, you can go to this folder and create shortcuts manually.

C:\Documents and Settings\YOURACCOUNT\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Quick Launch

Note: Substitute that appropriate entry where you see YOURACCOUNT.

As you add shortcuts to the Quick Launch toolbar it will create a double headed
arrow that when clicked on will display any shortcuts that don't fit. If you
want all the shortcuts to appear, right click on an open spot on your Taskbar at
the bottom of the screen and click on "Lock the Taskbar" if it's checked. Once
the Taskbar is unlocked you can either slide the dotted bar to the right or
raise the height of your Taskbar.

Windows Explorer (WE not IE) will always look to your newly created "Download" folder,
no matter where you place it and even other 3rd party Hi-speed Downloaders will see it.
That's should be all PC must do -- to lessen human effort and more time to surf.

I don't know what M.... is, but when you download it file, it tells
you where it's going to put it. Instead of accepting that location,
simply navigate to wherever you want it (I put mine in a folder I've
created called \DL). It will remember that, and use it for all
downloads in the future, unless you change it again.

Actually, it can not be done, because you're confused about the
terminology. You can *not* put shortcuts on the Task Bar, however you
*can* put them on the Quick Launch bar, which is probably what you're
thinking of. (Although the Quick Launch Bar resides on the Task Bar by
default, it can be dragged off it and docked on any other side of the
screen you prefer).

To put a shortcut on the Quick launch bar, simply drag it there.

By the way, for the future, if you have two unrelated questions like
this, it's best to ask them in separate messages.

You misunderstood the question. Mozilla has a feature where you can direct
it to always place files you download in teh same specific place (in my case
C:/ZZ). I am trying to find out if MS Internet Explorer has the same feature
buried somewhere. If so, it sure isn't obvious.
