New XP install-HD not recognized

Ok, I had unplugged a data drive, a slave drive, and installed a new
harddrive and installed my O/S again. After I got everything running, I then
re-plugged in the slave drive, I see in Computer Managerment that the drive
is there but under My Computer, the extra drive is not recognized.
Why?
It has data on it and ran just fine prior to adding a new drive and
installing the new O/S.
I go to Computer Management, Disk Management and right click on it and all I
see is Delete Partition and Help.
I dont really want to Delete the partition as there is data on it.
So what do I need to do to get MS XP Pro w/SP2 installed to have my drive
show up in My Computer?
Lost and needing to find my way.

DD,

I'm assuming it's the same OS on the drive. It's not linux or anything like
that. I would make sure what you're seeing in Computer management is in fact
that drive not diffrent part of another drive. you can look to see if the
sizes match up to what should in fact be there. The only reason I can think
of is that the IS doesn't know what the drive is formatted with or in fact
it does not actually see it because of a jumper setting or something like
that. good luck!

It was already on the computer prior to me having to re-install XP. NTFS is
the type and Computer Management recoginzes the drive as Healthy (Active) and
the correct size 298.09GB.
It was always a Slave drive and never a Master.
I removed the Master drive, it was bad, and replaced it with a new drive.
Now it does not see the drive in My Comptuer.

Yea, I have downloaded that but the problem with this software is it will
only capture files that are 64bites or smaller. I know I have music on the
drive that is much larger.
I dont want to buy the software.
I can delete the partition if necessary but need to make sure nothing is
impportant.
It just bugs me that I can not recover the drive because XP does not
recognize it.

I think this is an issue with the drive type ie dynamic or basic, although if
xp formatted it, then it should recognize it in either type, the problem with
dynamic is xp is the only OS that will see the drive, I found that out with
my dual boot system.
make sure it's basic, than all OS will see it.

You said you have replaced the slave drive with another slave? what ide
port is the old drive? is this a possible conflict with the cdrom drive? if
the cd drive shares the same cable and it's jumpered as slave then you will
have a conflict. one needs to be master and the other slave.

Never mind my last post, I guess I really need to slow down and read what you
said.
is the drive showing with lines thru it, in drive management? if so it needs
to be marked active.
