New windows open as 1/2 size

When I open a new window by right clicking on a link and
selecting Open In New Window, the new window opens as 1/2
size; i.e., only filling the top half of my computer
screen. I can maximize it afterwards, but it's a hassle
I'd prefer to avoid. When I open a web page normally, I
don't have this problem.

Open such a link.
Don't use the maximize button.
Stretch the edges/corners so that the window fills the screen.
Close all other IE windows.
Close the stretched window.
