New windows are blank

Everytime IE opens a new window it remains blank. I have
tried uninstalling IE, repairing, and reinstalling. I
think I may have deleted a shared file last week, but
thought that if I re installed IE it would come back. It
doesn't. If I use MSN browser I get no problems. Anyone
got any ideas?

See if this works:
1. Quit all programs that are running.
2. Click Start, and then click Run.
3. Type regsvr32 urlmon.dll, and then click OK.
4. When you receive the "DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll
succeeded"
message, click OK.

If this does not resolve the problem, repeat steps 2
through 4 for each of
the following files (in step 3, replace Urlmon.dll with
each of the file
names below):
Shdocvw.dll
Msjava.dll
Actxprxy.dll
Oleaut32.dll
Mshtml.dll
Browseui.dll
Shell32.dll (Windows XP and Windows 2000 only)

Hope this helps,
Debbie

Hi,

what exactly do you mean, remains "blank" ? When you have got no start page,
you will get the default page "about:blank". Find the settimgs for the
"default start page" in options | general.

If your new windows are empty, then THIS is the default entry. Do you expect
an autoload of an specific internet page ??

Hello,

I don't mean my home page. What I mean is, when browsing
and I click a link that opens a popup, then the popup
window remains blank, no matter how long I wait. Thia
happens with every popup window, whatever site I am on.

Hi Debbie,

Thanks for the advice, but it didn't work. Perhaps I
should have made it clear that it is popup windows that
are not working. They pop up OK when I click on a link,
but then just hang and remain blank.

Any more suggestions?

From http://www.fjsmjs.com/OE/nolinks.htm

1. Click Start, and then click Run.

2. In the Open box, type:

regsvr32 urlmon.dll

3. Click OK, and then click OK again when you receive the following message:

DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded.

4. If that doesn't fix it, see this article:

http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/answers.htm#new_window

You can also try this:

Go to Start/run, and type SFC.
Choose 'Extract One File From Installation Disk'.
Type oleaut32.dll, not worrying about its location. Then, click Start.

Next to 'Restore From', type in or browse for the file's location, which is
probably in the Win98 folder of your installation CD-ROM (typically
D:\Win98), or in your Windows\Options\Cabs folder, as the case may be.

Then, next to 'Save File In', enter C:\Windows\System, and click OK. System
File Checker looks for the file, saves it as you requested, and then tells
you that 'the file has been successfully extracted'.

You may need to reboot.

1. Visit Windows Update and install Q818529 (at least).

2. If no joy with these "pop up" windows, find a file named HOSTS (all caps,
no extension, and not Lmhosts.*) and rename it HOSTSOLD.

Thanks Frank,

Restoring the single file worked.
