New Version of Google Earth

There is a new version of Google Earth available on the Google Earth site and
it fixes the problem some of us have with Microsoft wireless mice where
the scroll wheel only zooms in one direction. It now works as it should.

What you are trying to say is that Google has written a vista compatible
program; NOT that a fault has been fixed in vista!

Yes, I am only pointing out that those of us that have been plagued by this
issue now have a solution. It was, as I understand, a Google issue.

My version, downloaded earlier this month, is from July 2007 (says it's the
2008 version). I don't see one that's a later-dated one.

Why is it always someone else's fault? Why does an operating system have
to be upgraded that everybody else has to conform to? Why can't an OS be
upgraded that doesn't break everything?

Why upgrade unless you want what the new OS does?
If you buy a new machine and it comes with a new OS and that doesn't have
drivers and fails every ten minutes you take it back and the hardware
supplier goes bust as they should do.
If you decide to upgrade an existing system then its really up to you to
check its going to be OK if you do whether its hardware or software you are
changing. Nobody complains if someone buys a bit of incompatible hardware
that doesn't fit.. they just tell the user to take it back and buy the
correct bit. I have yet to see anyone suggest they campaign to get the
hardware manufacturer to redesign the hardware to fit the machine. If PCs
were like microwaves that you bought a new one if you wanted an upgrade none
of these problems would exist. So basically it boils down to if you know
what you are doing then upgrade to vista if you want if you don't but still
want Vista buy a new machine with it on, otherwise why upgrade at all?

That would be true in an utopian world. But when OSs are phased out so
the new ones will be used then you don't have a lot of choice.
So my hardware goes bad, I buy a new computer, I reinstall xp. Oh wait,
I have to buy it again because this is a new computer. Nope Xp is no
longer on the market.....

Well XP is available now and probably will be next year and you don't have
to buy it to install it on a machine licensed for Vista.

Any good new machine should run vista without problem so your only problem
will be if you have old software to run.
If so you had better start to think about updating your disaster recovery
plans before its too late.
You may have to make sure you can build/buy a machine with XP drivers or
check your software will run in a virtual machine on a vista machine.

This is in no way different to when Apple updated Macs to Intel or Sun went
to Solaris, etc. except that its probably a lot easier.
