Hi, I have a question. I have a sister who is disabled and is currently
running WindowsMe on a compac computer. WindowsMe crashes so much I want to
get her off of it. She has limited use of her hands so the crashing is a
pain in the rear. I do her trouble shooting for her via the telephone and I
am running WindowsXP Pro. I wanted to know how different windowsXP Pro is
from Windows2000. I was given a copy of windows2000 as a gift, and so if I
can use that I will not have to buy anything for my sister. I was wondering
how difficult it was going to be to trouble shoot windows 2000 if I do not
have it. She is not computer savvy but has used windows98, 98 second edition
and windowsME. PS: My other concern is how much re-buying of software is
going to be necessary with the change. What do you think?

Sandy...if you run your version of XP's start menu in
traditional windows mode, you will see virtually the same
thing your sister will, with W2K on her machine. The
desktop in XP doesn't look like nor is it navigated the
same as in W2K. You'd probably be better off to get her
a copy of XP Pro for her machine and you will both have
the same thing. IF she or you are a student, you can
probably pick up XP for about $15 or $20.

no one,

Yes I teach. If you know of a website where I can get a copy for that price
I would appreciate it.

Also be aware some programs that ran on ME may not run on
XP, hard to say before hand which ones will not work,
however some manufactors may have updates to allow running
on XP. do a search on google for educators discount, I
don't think you will find it as cheap as the previous
message states.
