new user folders

Does anyone know how to create new user foders in Vista?

Each user has Documents, Videos, Pictures and so on folders. I'm trying to
add Books and Projects folders but it would be nice if they were somewhat
virtual like the other ones. I tried to follow a post where someone saves
search folder, but it doesn't seem to be the same.

Thanks

I'm not sure what you mean by "somewhat virtual like the other ones". If
you were to create a Books folder or a Projects folder in C:\Users\(Your
Name), what feature(s) do the other folders have that you feel are lacking
in your new folders?

I am wonderin' the same thing...... I think what this post is refering to is
when you create a new folder, they aren't the same color as the
music,pictures,contacts,etc.
is there a way to make a new folder and have it to be that bluish green
color as the rest of the personal folders?

Sure, you can change the folder icon by right-clicking the folder and
choosing Properties. On the Customize tab, click on "Change Icon...".
Browse to C:\Windows\System32\imageres.dll for the bluish green icons used
by the default personal folders.

That doesn't do what is being asked. How do you create more pseudo-folders
like the ones already existing (looks like a folder, acts like a shortcut). I
can copy shortcuts and regular folders into the personal directory all day
long, but those are different.

My response to Moog was how to change the generic manila-colored icon for a
New Folder (created by the user). Moog asked: "is there a way to make a new
folder and have it to be that bluish green color as the rest of the personal
folders?"

It's not clear which folders you are talking about. You say you want to
create more pseudo-folders, like the ones already existing? Can you give us
a specific example of one of these folders, like it's name and location?

The folders with blue icons in the personal folder are the "pseudo-folders"
of which I speak.

The documents folder is a pseudo-folder, Trillian is a regular folder, and
misc series is a shortcut. The properties for the documents folder are
different, as they are something else entirely from an actual folder or a
shortcut. How can I make more of these?

In case that link won't work, the folders in question have a "Location" tab,
which allows you to change the target location.

I don't think there is a way to do what you are asking. You can make a
folder you create 'appear' to be like one of the user folders by assigning a
different icon, but you cannot assign the same properties that the original
user folder has.

All of the system created folders under each user have special properties
that are created by the system when a user account is first created. The
'Location' tab that you mentioned only appears as long as you are logged on
as that user. (This seems to indicate that the settings that define the
Location tab may be in the registry under the HKEY_CURRENT_USER hive) Even
if you copy one of these user folders to another location, they will retain
the same icon, but will lose the properties.

Well, I figured it out. It's hardly intuitive, but it's simple. All you have
to do is change the location of an existing folder and when it asks if you
want to copy all the files to the new location click No. And now you have a
new Personal Folder.

I knew it was possible because I had more than the starting amount of
folders already.
