Does MS actually ever FIX anything? It seems that with each new "patch", MS
opens up 2 more holes! TEN Critical updates this month? Every one was
installed last month, and now there are 10 new ones! Just what the hell is
going on over there!

MS release software, and some people out there spend time trying to
discredit the company and the software.. MS release patches.. some people
out there again spend time trying to discredit the company and the
software.. MS release patches.. some people out there again spend time
trying to discredit the company and the software.. MS release patches.. some

Are you getting the picture yet?..

Mike, I had to stop with the updates because everytime I installed I lost
the use of Microsoft Office '97-can't afford to get an updated Office
version. I appreciated the updates when I could get them. Any words of
wisdom for me?

Based upon what you have said, "some people ... spend time trying to
discredit the company and software," I guess that, yes, I do "get the
picture"...

MS released a massively flawed piece of crap, and discredited themselves and
their software by doing so... It's obvious that these "some people" are not
really "trying" to discredit the company and software (MS has already done
it for them;) they apparently HAVE discredited it, or none of these
"patches" would be necessary...

Thanks for the understanding...

isn't msoffice 97 8-bit or 16 bit software? you could always transfer that
setup onto a partition on your harddrive and reinstall it from there as a
convenience. you might also try to setup 97 up to run in a win95 enviroment.
have you tried right clicking on it and using one of the compatiability
options? maybe if you got enough power, you could download the 2007 beta's
and play with them for a while - until they expire in 2007. but you may
suffer a mental time warp if you go back to 97. sort of like driving at 100
miles for an hour then you suddenly have to slow down to 70........

As we have almost 1800 Windows XP/2003 systems running, without any
daily problems related to Windows, I would have to say that it's not
massively flawed for most users/uses.

Some people, read that as you, like Trolling and MS bashing, and it
doesn't help your position (not that you have one) to approach your
complaint the way you do.

At least MS is working to fix problems - I can't count the number of
vendors that release smaller amounts of software into the market with
massive bugs, and most of them are NOT responsive to fixing them.

Actually Office 97 and up are 32-bit applications - you are thinking
of Office 95, which was a mixture of 16-bit and 32-bit code.

I'm just bummed about the rumors that MS isn't going to release
Office 2007 in 64-bit, at least not initially.

"massively flawed"
That in itself is a vague statement.

Sure Windows needs regular updates.
So does any operating system.
Does that mean they are all "massively flawed"?
Some will say Windows requires more updates, does it really?
What would the update history of other operating systems be if similar
resources were expended on them as people currently expend on Windows
searching for issues?

Since before release people have been hard at work identifying possible
issues.
Some of those people have Microsoft interests and others want nothing more
than to discredit Microsoft.
But both are searching for issues.

Some issues are just bad code to begin with.
Others are changes in the way people feel software should run, protect the
computer etc.
And still others turn up because advances in technology make a non issue of
the past a potential problem today.

The fact that many issues are still found after 5 years really does not
suggest a weakness in Windows since vast numbers are searching for problems.
What should amaze people is that it has taken 5 years for some issues to be
discovered.
That gives some indication as to how much effort some go to in finding
faults.

If a perfect operating system is required, go back to pencil and paper...but
wait, there is an eraser...

Otherwise where technology is involved, there will be problems.

If someone considers Windows more "massively flawed" than another OS,
perhaps another OS is the better option for that person.
There are alternatives as well as vast sources of information and support
for the alternatives.
And they are easy to find.
