New Tweak UI 2.10 Size 25% Previous?

MS made the new download for Tweak UI Version 2.10 available July 16,
upgrading the prior version they released on April 23, 2002.
Characteristically, for whatever reason, instead of announcing it clearly,
they buried it at the download click on the site for Powertoys making it
harder to find and realize it's been updated. Does anyone know why the new
Tweak UI is 147KB and the previous version was 564kb. You would assume that
the later version would be larger, not 25% of the previous one.

Thanks,

Why would you assume the code would get bigger?
Usually - if you release new software, you would HOPE that it is cleaner,
more efficient and smaller. heh

In an ideal world, yeah.

Typically code is patched and dirty hacks are made to add features to an
existing product to "fit the mold". And the more features you have, the
bigger the code base gets. I have serious doubts a lot of software makers
spend a lot of time making *working* code "cleaner and more efficient and
smaller", especially if it means an executable of 150KB vs half a meg;
saving a few hundred kilobytes in this day and age is just not worth a
software maker's time. I'd think this is particularly true for something
like TweakUI, which is little more than a wrapper for registry edits.

As for the smaller size, I can't say I've compared both versions, but my
first assumption would be that the newer version is using a different
installer (using components that are already part of the OS instead of
repackaging/redistributing installer components), especially if this is the
TweakUI version I'm thinking of and is intended for XP and 2K3 only.
Remember that a lot of tiny utilities out there (100KB and less) are over
1MB in size just because of the installer used.

One of the older PowerToy installers installed all of the original
powertoys in one installer. The newer powertoys each have their own
installer. I think there have been three versions of TweakUI. The
original in the big installer, a version in its own installer and now
this SP1 update, in its own separate installer.
