For info: there seems to be a bug in this new release whereby after
starting it, after a while something causes 2 instances of Avant.exe
to be running. Trying to close one instance causes the whole program
to close down, so it might be intentional but I can't see why.

Meanwhile, I've gone back to the previous version.

Maybe that 'second instance' bug, if it did exist in 10.2 Build 25,
has been dealt with in the latest 10.2 Build *28* version:

Avant lists the same changes as Build 25 which makes me wonder if it
*is* the same Build changed by number only to be compliant with
additional download sites hosting Avant. I read about 'site standards'
last week on this 'build #' subject which makes me a bit wary about
posting updates *until* I can see solid proof of changes in the Build,
which the above changelog doesn't do. But heck, I'll upgrade to Build
28 anyway just for the hell of it and see what happens.

OH NOOO! MY MACHINE EXPLODED! <kidding!>

Thanks. In fact there's been several new releases since 10.2 b25.
I think the latest is 10.2 b33, although I d/l 10.2 b32 and it seems
to have fixed that two instance problem.

Avant Browser 10.2 Build 25, Released: 03.21.2006

This upgrade caused major (and un repairable) registry damage which
wounded the way in which RoboForm interacts with Internet Explorer and
made the entire OS unstable and liable to spontaneous rebooting and
required my reverting to a previous total system backup for the fix.

Unsure whether this new Avant was the sole culprit, I did just that
install again and, yet again, toasted Windows XP Pro SP2.

Has anyone else found any surprises with this version's installation?

Are you reacting on Avant Browser 10.2 Build 25 or Build 28?
Why do you change subject if you reply? This is very confusing.

My problems were with Avant Browser 10.2 Build 25. You must be confused
because I changed nothing and I see a thread of four postings in which all
the subjects are "Avant Browser 10.2 Build 25" and no posting anywhere
with a subject "Build 28". What were Message-Ids of any posts with a
subject "10.2 Build 28"?

If you use a poor newsreader which threads on just the first few
characters of a Subject: you may have mistakenly thought I was replying to
your post about 10.2 Build 38, but any reader which threads on the full
Subject or on the References would not make that mistake.

I have reverted to Version 10.1 Build 40 until I hear good news about a
safe build of Version 10.2.

Hi Tony,
It must be Build 38. My first fault.
I thought you had changed the subject, but I'm afraid I myself did that,
posting a follow-up instead of a new posting. For punishment I'll do 100
push-ups. Sorry.
