There is too much eye candy here. How do I get Vista to let me get a
CMD box?

Is there a web page or FAQ for "vista for Windows pros"?

Click on the blue Vista start button and in the Start Search box
type: CMD and the CMD icon will magically appear at the top
of the Start Menu.

You can add Run to the Start Menu by right-clicking on the Start Orb and
choosing Properties. You'll see where you can personalize various parts.

Or you can type "cmd" (without the quotes, of course) in the Search box.
When cmd appears in Results above, you can elevate it by right-clicking and
choosing "run as Administrator" or just click on it if you don't want
elevation.

As for your last question, power users know to use Google. ;-)

Lots of good stuff there. I'm sure you can come up with other inventive
search terms that will get you what you're looking for. If you like book
learning, Amazon has a good selection. I don't know you so don't know if
you'd like "Windows Vista: The Missing Manual" by David Pogue, "Windows
Vista Inside Out" by Ed Bott et al., or ...

Hi, Al.

Much easier than ever before. ;<) Just press Start and type "cmd.exe"
(with or without the quotes) and press Enter.

Or you could click Start | All Programs | Accessories | Command Prompt. If
you are an Administrator, you can right-click on Command Prompt and choose
Run as Administrator - and furnish your administrator password. You will
note that the Title Bar will say "Administrator:Command Prompt". Any
command launched from this elevated prompt will also run elevated - although
you may still need to supply the password to run some of them.
