I have a large amount of data stored on 4 different network drives. The
amount of data will increase year on year and I need to find a way of keeping
track of it and for several users to be able to search for specific files so
that they can be downloaded to the local drive for analysis. Is creating a
database the best way to do this?

hi,
you didn't mention what type of data it is but generally
speaking...yes. best way to consolidate the data in to one
place that would make it easy to call it up and download.
one thing does worry me. the part about calling up
specific files.
I would post in database design for further help. state
what type of data you have and what you need to do. if you
get stuck on forms, querys, table design, ect, this is a
good place to get help.

With no more information than you've given, Probably.

If you do something in Access you can also build a facility so that when the
user finds their target file(s) they can navigate to their target download
folder and have that done for them rather than first finding the files and
then going after them with Windows Explorer and copying them down.
