new t1 is slow

margie

I just installed a T1 line in our school, It si running
but is super slow. It is coming from a router into a
firewall and the firewall's trusted line goes right into
a switch. I set up DNS to forward all the gateway and
ISP addresses. Everyone can access the internet but it
is slower than a dialup...
What am I forgetting or doing wrong?

Thanks for your help

Hello,

If you go to Google and search for "dsl speed test" you get a number of
hits for sites that will test your connection speed. If you go to
bandwidthplace.com/speedtest you have a choice of several different
connection types.

One of these tests will let you know if it is the connection or something
local. Other factors that can influence speed are filter drivers such as
virus scanners and firewalls. Also if you are seeing it slow at boot then
it could be just taking that opportunity to things such as downloading
updates from WindowsUpdate.com.
