New system, slow restart/shutdown times

hey

Here's the system I just got:

Athlon 64 3200+
Abit AN8 Ultra
1GB Corsair RAM
2 x Samsung 200GB NCQ SATA HDDs (in RAID0)
XpertVision 6600GT
DVD-ROM
DVD-RW
FDD
Nebula DigiTV TV Tuner PCI card
400W Tt PSU

Here's the problem. When I shutdown or restart the computer it goes through
the WinXP screen saying shutting down etc, but then goes to a black/blank
screen for a while before shutting down or restarting.

Could there be some kind of compatability issue with the TV card or is the
system doing some kind of check on the RAID0 HDDs which is taking ages?

The system was working fine originally until I decided to do a BIOS update,
which said it was successful, but when it restarted there was a problem with
the RAID setup and I had to do a complete reinstall of windows etc. However
something I stupidly did was reset the CMOS while the power was still on...
could this have stuffed it up? (although everything is still running fine
except for the restart/shutdown times)

cheers

Check for driver issues in Start, Control Panel, Hardware, Device
Manager. Look for yellow question mark.

Are there any Error Reports in Event Viewer. If yes please post copies.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools,
Event Viewer.
When researching the meaning of the error, information regarding Event
ID, Source
and Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308427&Product=winxp

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the
error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a button
resembling two
pages. Double click the button and close Event Viewer. Now start your
message
(email) and do a paste into the body of the message. This will paste the
info from the
Event Viewer Error Report complete with links into the message. Make
sure this is
the first paste after exiting from Event Viewer.

The nVidia WDM Video Capture (universal) service failed to start due to the

That's about it. I think the problem may be something to do with the RAID0
setup and some setting in the BIOS?

* These two come up a lot... they're the drivers from the TV Tuner card

You should update your virus definitions and run a full anti-virus scan.

If you do not have an anti-virus programme a highly respected freeware
anti-virus is AVG.
http://www.download.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-Free-Edition/3000-2239_4-10342876.html
It automatically updates virus definitions.

You should also have an anti- spyware programme. Do you have one? If not
try:
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx
Again it's free.

If you have a virus and remove it you may still have problems. If this
is
so please post to this thread so that it is clear what is the history of
your problem.

There's no viruses as the computer is completely brand new (I only just built
it)

Then strip it down and test the hardware, starting with your RAM. You've
got either some faulty hardware or faulty drivers.

Have you connected to the Internet? Have you installed any updates off
the internet?

I don't think there is any problem with the hardware, since the computer
works perfectly fine once it has loaded, it's just the shutdown and restart
times are slow.

Would 2 x 200GB HDDs in RAID0 cause the slowness as the computer is checking
the HDDs before it shuts down?

Yep I've done all the windows updates etc and BIOS update.
