New start menu not available

I recently got a new company laptop with WindowsXP SP2, and noticed
that in the Taskbar and Start Menu properties there is no possibility
to select the new (XP) start menu: the only entry (selected) is the
Classic Start Menu.

There is no entry for 'NoSimpleStartMenu' in my registry at the policy
key HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
I have also checked it with gpedit.msc: 'Force classic start menu' is
set to 'Not Configured', which should give me the choice.

I have administrator rights on this PC.

Are there other settings which can block the start menu choice from
appearing?

Hi,

Open Registry Editor and navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

In the right-pane, delete the "NoSimpleStartMenu" (if found)

Close Registry Editor.

Thanks for the reply.

I had overlooked the HKCU setting. Removing the settings there fixed
the problem.
