New software won't shut down

My office (a non-profit) just spent big bucks on a
fundraising software package. I had no problem installing
it, loaded data, and exited. When I went to shut down my
computer, it said the new program was still running,
then "not responding", and got into a loop so that I
ended up having to shut off the power to the computer. I
called Tech Support for the software and was asked
whether I was using the Professional or Home edition of
Windows XP. They said the Home edition has a problem
handling programs. Does this make sense to anyone? Has
anyone found a fix other than buying a new OS? Thanks for
any help you can offer!

Home edition has problems handling programs - rubbish - you were fobbed-off.

I assume you had closed the program before closing down your PC? If so then
the software had not closed properly when you exited the program. Which
program was it?

You got lied too. XP home and pro will run software identically if the
program is coded correctly. There program is hanging on exit, meaning when
you close it, it isn't really closing. This is a bug in the softwares code
and has nothing to do with xp home or xp pro. Call the support back and if
they can't fix it, get a refund.

I have a similiar problem that you're encountering. I
just install Win EP Pro. When I went to shut down, the
program "Devldr" would not shutdown. I'm not sure but, I
think this is related to a program outside of XP. I'm
suspecting it's related to the SoundBlaster program I
thought I needed to install. My PC would just loop
around to restarting instead of shutting down. I was
wondering if you found a resolution to your problem, and
share how you fixed you problem. Thanks, James.

No. It's completely false. XP Professional and XP Home are
exactly the same in all respects, except that Professional has a
few features (mostly related to networking and security) missing
from Home.

For details go to

http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/windowsxp_home_pro.asp

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/whichxp.asp

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/home/howtobuy/choosing2.asp

Also note that Professional allows ten concurrent network
connections, and Home only five.

As regards their ability to run a particular program, they are
identical. Whatever your problem, this isn't it.
