computer shutting down

Hi,
i'm using windows xp home edition, when i boot up computer it get to
username and password screen then the computer completly shuts down. can
anyone help me on this.

Bob, could be overheating. Check all the fans for proper operation
especially the fan on the CPU.

Also could be dust buildup on the fansink, even tho the cpu fan is
running. It cant cool if the cpu sink is clogged with dust.
