New situation with my router - help!

Here's my story... I use XP and have a RoadRunner cable internet connection.
My desktop PC was set up with my Dell Wireless 2350 Broadband Router (Model
WRTA-108GD) and I could use my wireless Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop to
communicate at home just fine. My PC went on the blink. So now I want to
set up the router so I can take my laptop wirelessly to other rooms in my
home (but I have no PC to connect it to). I tried to install the router CD
on the laptop, but it searched and told me I didn't have an internet
connection (but I was online as I had the ethernet cable connected to the
laptop from the modem). Am I trying to do the impossible? FYI - I never
installed RR CD on my laptop, as I was connecting wireless through my PC
(wired to the modem). Would that make a difference? Right now I am
connecting through the ethernet cable perfectly - would I be opening a can of
worms to try the above senario?? I can't find any self-help for my
particular situation. Would appreciate someone's advice! Thanks

He meant the that only purpose for the CD is to setup the router. As you
are able to connect to the internet, the router is setup. Hence there is no
need for the CD.

Please furnish the results from ipconfig/all.
You get to ipconfig by Start>Run>cmd>ipconfig.

FYI, you should be able to connect to the internet whether the PC is present
or not. You may find that the wireless signal from the router is too weak.
