New setup SP2 , LAN fails to function

First of all hello. long time listener 1st time caller..( always wanted
to say that)

first time posting here, I been burning away the last 7 days with a new
hardware setup everything works great except 1 sorta major thing..
cannot access internet. heck even the network card.
running : Aopen i865gm-i motherboard, p4 3g hz, windows xp pro sp2.

what occurs: 1 of 2 things.

1. Xp detects the plug in play card, but cannot detect an IP #
gateway . anything.. this is with a built in intel pro Lan/100 card, a
Netgear fa311 card, and a Real sys card.

2. Xp detects the card as normally, internet functions for 1 to 5
mins then total hang up, plus random hang ups on start up while
installed. (this only occurs with a linksys lne100tx v1. card) its the
only card that has been able to access the net. all others cannot.- when
it hangs up only way to fix is hard reboot-

I have done the standard stuff. not new to networking pcs. this is a
new setup. all these cards work with other computers on same network.
i have checked to see if any were sharing an IRQ. nope. i disabled
everything in bios that took up IRQs and werent needed.(USB and onboard
VGA,LAN).

I have the latest drivers for each card. Windows detects the plug and
play but seems to be unable to receive packets. i thought maybe it was
the SP2 firewall. tried disabling it and just running it on a LAN
instead of net. didnt help. 3 of 4 networks all have the exact same
problem. seem to be able to send but unable to receive.

the other computers im running dont have sp2. using 2 with XP pro
Sp1, and 1 with 98se.
i have reformated, tried multiple bios settings. even resorted to
Voodoo... anyone have any clue? please im begging this is my wifes
computer :(

I've read through your good description of the problem and the
equipment, but I don't see where you said anything about the network
structure. Is this wired lan (assume wired because of the hardware you
mention) going to a router and from there out to cable/dsl modem? I
don't understand what you mean by this:
tried disabling it and just running it on a LAN
instead of net. didnt help. 3 of 4 networks all have the exact same
problem. seem to be able to send but unable to receive.

Maybe you could explain what the above means. If you are using a router,
how many ports does it have? Have you switched the ports? Are you doing
any MAC address filtering on the router? Do you have any limits set on
the router as to number of PC's on the network? Have you swapped out
the ethernet cable?
