Multiple LANs one card..help

Having issues getting a pc online with our router. Used to work fine. Card is
now replaced with known working card and cabing is verified as good. I
noticed that when I installed the new card it kept on loading a driver for a
realtek card when in fact it was not a realtek card at all. So I forced the
driver on and I still have the "Limited or no connectivity" issue. I noticed
aother oddity. I stated that the lan connection is known as lan 17. 16 prior
lan configurations reside somewhere and I feel its creating this issue. All
other computers with XP running on this network work flawlessly.

Summary -
XP pro with SP2
New verified working card
New verified working cable
XP tried to load incorrect driver during new card installation.
XP labels this connection as the 17th
Only one card installed
Only one inet connection was being used
Limited or no connectivity message. There is no connectivity
Can not renew ip
100% packet loss when pinging the routers address.

How can I remove the other fantom 16 lan entries?

Thanks

Many other manufacturers use Realtek chips in their network cards, and
Windows identifies them as Realtek. What make and model of card do
you have? What driver did you force on it?

I don't think that "Local Area Connection 17" indicates a problem.
You can right-click and rename the connection to anything that you
want.

Try un-installing the card in Device Manager, shutting down, and
moving it to a different slot. Try specifying the duplex mode and
connection speed instead of using autosensing.

Thanks for the ideas Steve.

I moved the nic card after removing the driver and hardware from add/remove
hardware into a different pci slot and installed the driver.

I went into the device manager for the card and I had 4 options as far as
what mode it runs in.
10 half and full
100 half and full

I attempted all 4 to no avail.

Heres is something interesting though. Thr router assings the ip of
192.168.1.102. I head into the TCP properties and add that ip with a
255.255.255.0 subnet mask. However I am not sure where to get the information
for default gateway and what to enter into preferred dns. By adding that IP
and subnet I can now use the option to repair the connection thru a menu in
properties and it does go thru the cycle...however still no internet. So
while I feel closer to resolving this issue, Im yet so far away from
understanding what to do next.

Thanks to all for any advice.
