New service pack#2

Mike

I recieved notifications that the new service pack was
ready to be downloaded. However, when I clicked the
download button, nothing happened. It usually will let
me know when the download is finished and ready for
installation.

Since the new service pack #2 is set up for the automatic
updates, how do I get the update. I went to the windows
update website but it indicates that the service pack is
only for the automatic updates....

Thanks

It may take days and that's if the PC is online all the time.

Since automatic updates is going to hundreds of millions of users across the
world, your computer will eventually get download from windows update site.

meanwhile, you can verify following to ensure that automatic updates are set
up correctly. If you want to verify your PC is setup correctly for auto
updates, you can
follow instructions from
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/protect/windowsxp/updates.aspx

Or, Let the wizard from website do it for you.
http://protect.microsoft.com/security/protect/WSA/en/default.asp

Alternatively you could download the full install from following link and
install it yourself. Please note the full install download is approx 270 MB
large so for slow connection it would long time

I am sorry that things seem so obtuse.

Microsoft is overwhelmed. Many people have reported 'nothing' happening
with the update button since everything is totally choked.

It won't "do" anything that you can see, but it will silently download the
updates until they are all there. THEN you will be notified. You will have
to OK the Eula Agreement before they will install. It may take days or
weeks before it's all downloaded, depending on the speed of your
connection, how much you are online, and how busy the MS servers are. If
you just can't wait, then you can download the whole network package at
various places now, but you'll be getting a lot more than you need.

Another place to get the file is TechNet and you can get the full version of
SP2 for download.

Although it is meant for IT professional to perform update on multiple
systems, the file can also be used for single computer - according to
various industry reports.

I did download it and install on my single computer and put it to a DVD for
our MIS.

I got SP2 that way too. The only annoyance I encountered was that I had to
re-activate XP. Did you?

That IS the Microsoft website. I just used the tinyurl to keep it from
wrapping.

DO NOT download service pack 2 from any other website.. Download it
from Microsoft only........
