New Service Pack 2

Aaron

I have our XPP machines configed to automatically
download and install service packs and security updates.
I do not want this latest service pack 2 to be installed
until it is tested. Do I need to reconfigure automatic
updates on each PC or is this going to be released a
different way due to the concern for possible problems?

Hi, as SP2 is still in RC2 and therefore not available on the V4 update page
you will have nothing to worry about.....

Aaron;
If you have automatic Updates on, Sp 2 will be downloaded with a
prompt for you to install.
If you do not want SP 2 downloaded disable Automatic Update.

SP 2 is currently and has been for several months undergoing extensive
testing.

My guess is SP 2 will be released in 3 - 5 weeks.

It is currently being tested and won't be available until they deem the
testing to be sufficient or adequate. You cannot get it till then, unless of
course YOU elect to download the Beta version..

I also have a question about the SP2, although I know it is much needed,
they say that the Firewall by default will be set on. I don't use Xp's
firewall, I use Zonealarm, will I still be able to disable XP's firewall? I
understand that more than likely, I will have to update ZoneAlarm along with
Norton, and probably a few more programs that I run. I know this is a stupid
question, but would like to find out now rather than pull teeth later on.

Sounds like bad advice to me, or am I missing something here?

You recommend to "disable" AU, but then the person might (in the meantime) miss out on something very well needed. If SP2 is downloaded having the V4 version setup to auto-download/install, then WTF is MS thinking doing this on something still being tested?

It should never be included in AU, unless the person wants to do this totally on their own.

Yes, you enable/disable the firewall the same as before.

Tom;
My advice was directed to a particular individual with a particular
situation.
The suggestion may not apply in other circumstances.
So yes you missed something...the post by the OP.

If Automatic Update is disabled the OP will have to check for updates
manually.

Microsoft is not"...doing this on something still being tested".
By the time SP 2 is released, the testing phase will be concluded.

The Beta will not download with V4, only the final version..

And yes SP 2 need to be included in AU because so many need it.

According to some bad mint called Carol from Belgium it already is!
Apparently she downloaded it from WU a week ago!
