New Roof

Nathaniel,

Here are the numbers that you are looking for; these are estimates of
the costs so that you can decide which direction you want to move in.

First there is the cost of demolition. For the cedar roof which is
leaking it will run around $2,400. I have spoken to several roofers about
whether or not to take off an old roof and all have said that it is an issue
of weight; in which case we should consider removing the old shingles on
your roof.

The cost of a standing seem metal roof for the section which has cedar
on it will be $5,500, and will be the same whether or not you demolish the
old roof. This is based on recent costs for roofs we have had done for
others and if you chose this option then I will meet with the metal roofer
and give you a more precise number.

The cost of a copper roof I will get back to you with, sufise it to say
that it will be the most costly option.

The cost to replace the cedar roof with new Cedar will run approximately
$8,500. And as far as the Finish color is concerned I can make it turn
silver gray right away or it can be treated to stay the rich red of new
cedar.

To demo the metal roof will cost $2,800, which includes the removal of
the cedar under it.

A new metal roof to replace the existing one will be around $4,500 and
again if you go this rout then I will meet the metal roofer at you house and
work out a more precise number.

If you should chose to replace the metal roof with cedar that will run
around 7,500.

None of these have taken into account any framing or major repairs to
the framing, which may need to be done. Those would need to be done on an
hourly biases. I don't expect that there are any major problems with the
roof structure but it is not impossibility.

Moving on to your wood shed; it will cost $4,200 for me to build you
what we talked about. That was a shed roof to match what exists. That would
include the footing for the post, but not the cutting of the existing stone
step to fit. The other cost that is not included is the roof. That will be
included in whichever roof option you chose.

I look forward to hearing from you, and, If your are interested, will be
able to start work on your project the first weekend in October.
