YW.

That one is as old a dirt now! Practically everyday there's an update on
something. Recent Updates and/or new versions for:

AVG Free version 6
HijackThis Ver. 1.97.6
CWShredder Ver. 1.33.1 (this one was updated like 3 times in ~ one day!)
Amazingly, it has not been updated for 24+ hours now.

Not to mention the ever popular DAT files.
McAfee just posted SDAT4304.

Thanks a lot. Although I don't usually forget to check, a reminder helps,
and I missed this one.

Yes Sandi, I'll agree that Ad-Aware is a good program (exceptionally so for
a freeware item as well) but not without its limitations. Even having
HijackThis, Spybot, CWShredder, PestPatrol, SpywareBlaster, AVG AV, and ZA
Firewall I am still amazed at the types of things that can appear.

There is truth to your comment regarding troubleshooting following the use
of Ad-Aware; this is taken to yet higher levels with the use (or mis-use) of
SpybotSD, and even more so with Hijack This.

On a different -yet similar- topic: I was, shall I say "amused" (?), at the
trials and tribulations in your *adventure* with "Intelligent Explorer" that
was fully documented in the E-List write-up! It proved to be most
enlightening as well as -at your expense -extremely entertaining! <G>

Thanks Sandi, for all of your efforts in making your WebSite very helpful
and informative. I refer to it myself on a fairly regular basis, and have
directed countless others to find a solution for their various problems
within it.

Regards,

Remember, AdAware (as wonderful as it is) can't detect everything; I'd love
to see people learn how to self-troubleshoot after using AdAware to get rid
of the common stuff.

YW Papa. Some days have shown two updates -one on the heels of the other-
for some programs such as CWShredder and AVG as examples. It seems that one
would be wise to check daily at this stage of the "game". Five minutes
prevention inspection is worth the 5 hours, or 5 days of cure! :-D

Is Sandi still in here? I thought she had deserted us for "eye candy" XP.
????
Good to hear...

Nope, not generally. I cross-posted to Internet, and Internet.Browser
(amongst others)...two + of her other haunts. BTW, that's not Windows XP,
but rather Windows FP (Fisher-Price)! hehehehe.

.
Does every reference file contain the same stuff as
previous ones plus the new updated info or am I missing
many updates for not having installed every reference
file as it comes out? I can see how adding more and more
to 1 file will bloat it and make for a huge download, a
download growing everytime.... Given that, can some one
please tell me where I can download old reference files
(assuming I need to?)?

Agreed. I even offer to check people's HijackThis logs on my site, providing
an email URL to send them to me (I'm a glutton for punishment).

Unfortunately that service is still alive, well and kicking - in fact has
been expanded to also include 'atomic clock' <shudder> At the same time,
they've not taken action against me to force my site to remove my story,
unlike what happened to others.

Hi Sandi,

Replies and one inquiry <in-line>

Agreed. I even offer to check people's HijackThis logs on my site, providing

My condolences; but it surely must be "Good Karma" offset by long hours. Or
as has been said in other ways: "Time spent deciphering HijackThis logs will
not be deducted from ones time on earth." ;-)

Unlike most PC's it manages to get its grubby paws into. :-\ Congrats are
in order, in that you've managed to stave off the no-good, bloodsuckers!

However, just now you've touched upon a topic of some interest that has me
wondering. You have made mention of 'Atomic Clock', and with a distinct
shudder. When you shudder like that, it doesn't provide me with a sense of
comfort or reassurance. Would you be referring to this worldtimeserver
atomic clock perchance? Is there something we / I should know?

:) You're welcome.

Obviously you've never heard the stories of Sandi and her mystical
flame-thrower. When she's mad at you, YOU WILL KNOW SHE'S MAD. ;-)

L

Heh heh heh. That being said, I am much relieved, but stand advised.
Therefore as a precaution - Inasmuch as burnt hair has a decidedly
unpleasant aroma - I shall carry the flame-retardant suit upon my person at
all times. ;-D

That's one approach. The other is to be sure you never annoy her.

Isn't that right, dear? <VBG>

Good question, and I don't know the answer to it. Sorry. I know with some
varieties of AV and ANT/ANS that the prior updates are kept by some means,
and the intervening ref. files can be eliminated. This would be exclusive of
the set-up parametric and the latest updated references.

But I think that one hasn't the need for older reference files. When the
program is first obtained and installed, the combination along with the most
recent update covers all the bases?

Perhaps someone can correct me and answer this to the benefit of all.

L

LuckyStrike

Heh. I shall follow the suggestion *to the letter*. BTW, I now have a mild
recollection of viewing a minor "flare up" (not at myself, fortunately)
regarding suggestions to "Disable third-party browser extensions", IIRC.
What it was now escapes me...but I believe I could hear the click-click
sound of the "Igniter" in the background. ;-)
