new ram makes xp crash

just a little prob
went and bought a stick of 512 mb 333mhz ddr ram for my atherton 2400 m/board and this makes the system crash .
orriginal was 2 x 128 166 mhz ddr .this still kills system but not as fast
have tried correcting page file turned off auto restart plus other options
please help
p/s no new drivers have been installed

Does the BIOS and mobo support 512 MB sticks? Did you put
the 512 DDR in the lowest numbered slot and remove the 2 128
of mismatched RAM?

even if the 333 worked it would only run at 166 speed

You have to ensure your previous RAM is compatible
with the new RAM. And that it's compatible with
your motherboard.
Have a look at the memory configurators

your specific make and model PC.

bios reconises the new ram as does windows but how can i check to make sure
have just got memtest program will run tonight
any other ideas will help
